Tips to improve your Wi-Fi connection

It’s a fact that everyday the popularity of multiplayer online games keeps increasing, and this is also a reality for mobiles games. Most of our smartphones connect to the Internet through Wi-Fi, so it’s very important to have a very good connection / signal in order to have the best performance possible on any online game.

There are several mistakes that can be avoided and even some measures that can greatly help improving your Wi-Fi connection, and these are the kind of tips we will talk about today.

Use a Powerline Adapter

A Powerline Adapter is basically a device that allows you to extend the Wi-Fi signal through the whole house. This device is connected to your home electrical outlets and its greatest advantage is that you don’t need to think of the best place for your router, since the Powerline Adapter allows you to create several Wi-Fi points.

Calculate the best place for your router

If you don’t want to buy any extra hardware, then one of the most important things you should do is to place the router on the best place possible. If you put it on ground level you will most likely not get a strong signal and hence feel a lot of lag. Walls also dissipate part of the signal, so you have to see the best place to have the least amount of physical barriers possible.

Avoid multiple devices usage

With a Wi-Fi connection, any amount of devices can connect to the Internet using the same devices, but that also means the signal is shared by everyone. If two people are using the same Internet connection, both will feel a lesser performance than if they were the only ones using it. This is especially true people are downloading files or watching videos / streaming, this will greatly slow down the Internet speed of everyone connected.

Don’t let anyone steal your Wi-Fi connection

This is a very common reality: many of us have people connecting to the Internet using our router and we don’t even know about it. Just like the above tip, if they are using our Internet, they will slow it down and depending of what they do with it, they’re going to affect it greatly. Usually through the router settings you can verify how many devices are connected to the Internet and each Mac Address.

Change your router channel

If you leave in an apartment and your neighbors use the exact same channel / frequency as you, this will lower your signal strength. Through the router settings it’s possible to change the channel to one that has less users to improve the signal quality.

Reboot your router

It’s very important to reboot your router occasionally, sometimes a long uptime causes issues and so a reboot can really do wonders to your signal.

GoatZ, goats and zombies

One of the most popular simulators in the world is going to receive a pack / version with something we’d never expect: zombies. That’s right. After surprising us with a MMO version, now we have a zombie survival version, and this one is also available on Google Play and on the App Store. Zombies, zombies, zombies and a crafting system will be the set on this new goat adventure.

You can craft weapoins to deal with the zombies and you also must eat every 5 minutes in order to survive. So it’s not just killing zombies randomly, you’ll need to think fast to survive. The easy mode doesn’t have the hunger option for those that are looking for a less stressing mode.

Here’s a 30 seconds video that will show you what you can find on GoatZ (and yes, it sounds a lot like DayZ, the other zombie survival game):

New Knights of Pen & Paper 2 trailer

Sadly we still don’t have a release date for the sequer of Knights of Pen & Paper, however we have something new to see before the game is released, that is a very nice 60 FPS video trailer with a little gameplay behind.

Although the changes aren’t very well visible during the trailer, we know that there’s a all new inventory system that will allows to make better use of it.

We’re guessing that the price of the game will be the same as the first one, but still we’ll have to wait for a new announcement. We’re also  glad that the graphics have stayed the same 8-bit style we love.

Check out the trailer and see for yourself what we’re talking about.

Fan of the Dungeon Hunter saga? Being either anAndroid or iOS user, its almost impossible that you do not atleast know this game. The big action RPG game will get its version 5 in one week from now. Excited? So are we.

5 new realms, an asynchronous multiplayer mode (defend and attack strongholds), new AAA graphics, new evolution system and daily / weekly events are some of the new features that we’ll be able to find on Dungeon Hunter 5.

So, next week, grab your smartphone or tablet and download the biggest new adventure on portable devices and start competing against thousands of players.

dreeps, the alarm playing game

Many of us wished we had more time to play games, but our busy lives sometimes simply do not allow us to have enough free time to enjoy that game we’d like to spend hours on. Perhaps this was what these japanese developers had in mind when they conceived this very original “game”.

This game basically runs while you’re awake, and you don’t have to do anything, and we mean it. Basically, on the game dreeps you simply have to set an alarm and that’s it! After that, everytime your alarm shoots, the boy will start his adventure. He will finish quests, fight monsters and find new friends to fight alongside him. And you don’t have any button to press, nor anymore kind of interaction.

Although in 2D, the cute pixeled graphics are a really nice touch to a very simple game (this is as much as a game as any trending idle game out there). You will find yourself checking how’s the adventure going, where’s the boy right now, if he found new friends, and so on.

Sadly this alarm / game is only available for iOS at the moment, and we hope that the game is released on Android too, because everyone should have the chance to play this original game.

Angry Birds Stella POP!

Yes that’s right, a new Angry Birds game coming soon to our devices (Android and Apple devices, atleast). It’s name? Angry Birds Stella POP!. And it quite suggests what is it about: popping bubbles, just like any other bubble shooting game that exists since forever.

So forget any similarities to any other Angry Birds game, because the only thing related is its theme around the Angry Birds characters, in this case being Stella the star bird. If you have ever played Bubble Witch Saga (which most likely you have), you will notice some features are the same. In fact, we could say that’s basically Bubble Witch Saga with Angry Birds characters instead of cats and witches.

That’s not exactly a bad thing, people looking for a new Puzzle Bubble like game will find Angry Birds Stella POP! very refreshing, however don’t except to be as addicted as you get when a new Angry Birds game comes out.

This game is available already in Canada’s App Store as a soft launch, and we can expect it worldwide very soon this year.

Unity3D pros and cons

Writting an article about Unity is not something new. This platform is getting more and more popular everyday, and its so for several reasons: its easy for developers to make their games and is several times more powerful that Macromedia Flash, the still king of online games.

Today we’ll offer a detailed review on Unity3D, so that you can see whats good and whats bad on working with Unity3D. This article was based on this developers blog with authorization.

So, to start, its very important to start saying that Android is by far the OS that takes most advantage of the Unity3D technology. Its market reaches more user than the iOS market. Socially is also more effective to launch a game in Unity3D.

There are also certain disavantages. Some of the biggest complains by some developers are, for example, the graphics quality compared to other platforms such as UDK. Its perfectly possible to improve the graphics, but that requires a lot of work at scratch, and not every developer like to spend their time on that or simply aren’t capable of designing as good to reach such quality levels.

The same thing happens to the levels physics. NVidia PhysX is great, no doubt about that, however in terms of features is not as rich as CryEngine for example. Its known that Unity 5 should bring an updated level physics engine, with many more features so we’ll have to wait for that.

Another big con that is not very friendly for beginners is that you either already have a project developed on Unity3D and add details to it to make a sequel or a new game, or you’ll have to start from zero. This is terrible compared to many other tools that already come with templates that allow to just edit everything you need, without having to build the whole core completely.

There is a large number of licenses to improve your experience working on Unity3D, however they aren’t cheap. As a single man team looking forward to make small games for smartphones, some of the licenses are just too much, as their obvious target are the big companies working on to create the next big games market hit.

Building and launching games on portable devices can also have its own disavantages, however there’s one big positive thing about it: if you use Unity free, you can publish on the most popular mobile markets.

In the end, freelancers and small indie teams are the ones that benefit the most with Unity3D. Although the tool offers several solutions and plans for big companies, we believe that there are better platforms to make games and that for small teams, Unity3D is the best there is.

Reading the title of this article will probably make you think “Why so many Assassin’s Creed lately?”, and it’s completely fair that you think that way. After the huge success that were the first two Assassin’s Creed games, a huge amount of spinoffs have been showing on every platform you can imagine.

This is also the case for Assassin’s Creed Identify, a game available both on Android and iOS devices. And this new game is actually good, atleast for what we should expect as a free action RPG game.

Although the gameplay is a bit different than what we’re used on consoles and much closer to several free to play games on portable devices, the Assassin’s Creed-ish setting is actually very well made, and the adaptation to touch-screen devices is very well done, no doubt about that.

Most of the negative reviews and critics are based on the fact that the gameplay is so different, but being a spinoff it shouldnt be something surprising. You will be able to find the game free on both the Apple Store and Google Play. Check the 20 minutes video to see what’s the game all about.

Grace of Letoile

Any fan of RPGs on portable devices know the company KEMCO, if it was on consoles we’d probably call them Square Enix or Level-5, simply because they are known for their huge library of (great, most of them atleast) 2D RPG games that usually mixes the classic turn based style with new features.

Today we announce that you can finally get their newest RPG, Grace of Letoile for your Android tablet and smartphone. Not only that, its launch came with a half price discount, so you can get Grace of Letoile for only 3,99€.

Another great thing about KEMCO games is that they are compatible even with old devices. If you have a smartphone with atleast Android 2.3, then you’re good to go.

We’ll leave you a trailer of the game, and you can check out the game on Google Play by clicking here.

World of Warriors

If you haven’t played World of Warriors on an iOS device, tell we’ll resume you pretty quickly what is it about. Basically you spend your time fighting warriors from all kinds of ages in 1 vs 1 up to 3 vs 3 battles. Each warrior has special attacks and elements that will allow you to fight through your opponent’s weaknesses.

Although this game was only released one month ago on iOS devices, its getting very popular, so popular it seems the developers rushed the development of the Android version. So if you own an Android device you’ll be happy to know that this week you’ll be able to recruit new warriors on your smartphone.

One thing is for sure: you won’t viking fighting egypcians fighting romans anywhere else than on this game. Its also a very good looking game, but that on mobile it might be difficult to execute certain attacks, since everything is done by moving your finger according to the warrior attack.

At the time of this article it may be possible that the game is already available in your country, so take a look and see if you can start recruiting your fighters!

King of Fighters 2012

Today’s news will make many beat em’ up fans very happy. It’s true that many of the beat em’ up games on Android and iOS aren’t very funtional to play because of the lack of real, physical buttons. However some games do work, and this is the case of The King of Fighters-A 2012(F).

Anyone who used to play games furiously in the 90s knows the king of the arcade machines. Choose 3 fighters and fight your way to the top in 3 vs 3 matches. Now you can do that too on your device with  this game.

It’s true that there was already a King of Fighters 2012 version available on the store, however this version is FREE, which means anyone can play this great game. You can choose from up to 34 fighters and fight through several game modes, including a Endless mode if you’re too good for the main campaign.

Don’t be confused if you find 2 versions, one (A) and one (F). The one with the (F) at the end is the free one, and has the exactly same contente as the paid onde.

Get it now on Google Play!

Pokémon on iOS

Any fan of Pokémon wishes to play their Pokémon games on portable devices other than the 3DS, or any older Nintendo system. And luckily (or not!) for iOS devices owners that “dream” came true with the launch of 2 Pokémon games: Pokémon TCG Online and Pokémon Camp.

Pokémon TCG Online, not for all devices

No matter how exciting a Pokémon card game on iOS might sound, not all iOS device owners can play it. Have an old iPad like the original one or iPad 2 (still one of the most used iPads), forget it. But do you have an iPad Mini? If its one of those without retina display, then you can also forget it. Only these 3 versions of iPad alone represent more than half the people that use an iPad, 55%.

Pokémon Camp, not for all ages

Pokémon Camp doesn’t face the same issues related to compatibility… atleast in terms of hardware. While anyone with an iPhone or iPad can play it, the problem is you won’t like the game unless you’re 6 to 8 years old, because that’s the target audience.
